Companion Care Hove Sustainability Policy 2025
Companion Care Hove is a locally owned small animal first Opinion GP practice. We are committed to bringing affordable, high quality care via a modern, well equipped practice, including, surgical theatre, in house laboratory, pharmacy and digital x-ray. Offering various aspects of veterinary health care including: routine and sick pet consultations, surgical procedures, general health checks and preventive health care through our tailor made health care plans.
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact by continually improving our services and operations with sustainability at the forefront.
Companion Care Hove support Vet Sustains Veterinary Sustainability goals. We acknowledge that our veterinary activities, services and operations have an impact on the environment and have identified key impacts related to our business that contribute to our environmental and carbon footprint. Through the implementation of this sustainability policy we will encourage wide reaching participation, working to reduce these impacts, whilst upholding the highest standards of animal health, welfare and clinical care for our patients.
We have identified the following key business activities that contribute to our overall environmental and carbon footprint:
· Use of Electricity, Gas and Water Consumption.
· Generation of Waste and disposal.
· Use of Anaesthetic Gases.
· Consumption of raw materials (including paper, prescribed drugs, medical plastics)
· Use of Parasiticides and Antimicrobials
· Transport Emissions.
Having identified the key environmental impacts of our practice, we commit to reducing these through a journey of continual improvement and implementing the following actions:
· Regular monitoring of electrical and gas use – switching items off where possible.
· Reducing water use by using alternative surgical scrub techniques, running the washing machine with full loads.
· Using orthopaedic bedding in kennels to reduce electrical heating requirements for in patients.
· Humphreys ADE low flow anaesthesia – reducing the amount of anaesthetic gas usage.
· Following Safe and responsible use of antimicrobials.
· Avoiding drug wastage through better stock control.
· Reduction of packaging size for dispensing medications and use of QR codes for data sheets.
· Increased mixed recycling stations around the practice
We are proud to Partner with the Woodland Trust, helping to plant Trees and protect woodlands across the UK. Since 2021 we have made an annual donation in the memory of all the wonderful pets we have had the pleasure of sharing our lives with.
Vets for Pets/Companion Care have pledged to protect, restore and create 20,000 acres of woodland by 2030, creating havens for wildlife and people.
