Meet the team
Jake qualified as a veterinarian from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 2000. After starting his career in a large animal practice, he discovered his passion for small animal medicine and decided to focus his career in that area.
Having worked in Northern Ireland, Kent, and Surrey, Jake later moved to Gloucestershire, where he opened Companion Care Gloucester (now Vets for Pets Gloucester) in September 2012. He is incredibly proud of how the practice has grown — from being just him and a small team to now a diverse group of 5 vets and 7 nurses providing excellent veterinary care.
Jake’s main interests lie in small animal medicine, dermatology, and clinical pathology. He is passionate about animal health and dedicated to offering compassionate, professional care throughout a pet’s life. He particularly enjoys building long-term relationships with clients and their pets, seeing them grow and thrive over the years.
Outside of work, Jake enjoys an active lifestyle and loves walking and cycling in the Forest of Dean, where he lives with his wife and children, dogs Kooper and Ivy, cat Raymond, and guinea pigs Inca and Andie.
Zack has been a veterinary surgeon at the practice for over seven years, enjoying the variety and challenge of a busy case load. He has a particular interest in surgery, especially orthopedics.
Recently settled in his first home in Hartpury, Zack enjoys dog walks and spends the winter months running a local pheasant shoot.
Laura graduated from the University of Surrey in 2023 and joined the team at Vets for Pets Gloucester soon after. She has a particular love for cats and enjoys caring for all small animals.
At home, Laura shares her life with her two cheeky rescue cats, Binky and Jasper. Outside of work, she enjoys walking in the countryside, practising yoga, and going to the theatre with friends.
Shey is a passionate veterinary surgeon whose journey has taken him from academic distinction in Nigeria to practising in the United Kingdom.
After earning a Diploma in Agricultural Technology, Shey went on to study Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, graduating in 2019 as one of the top students in his class. Following graduation, he gained valuable experience working in small animal practice, where he developed a strong foundation in clinical care and teamwork.
His dedication to veterinary excellence earned him a prestigious scholarship to the UK, where he completed a Master’s degree in Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, in 2023. Later that same year, he moved to Gloucester and joined Vets for Pets Gloucester as a Veterinary Assistant.
In 2025, Shey achieved a significant career milestone when he obtained his UK licence to practise and became a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS).
Clinically, Shey has a strong interest in diagnostic pathology and soft tissue surgery. Outside of the clinic, he is a talented musician who balances his veterinary career with his love for music — frequently playing the piano and directing musical performances.
Amaan joined the practice in 2024 after graduating from the University of Bristol. He enjoys all aspects of small-animal practice, with particular interests in surgery and neurology.
He is committed to broadening his surgical experience and continuing professional development to provide high-quality, evidence-based care for every patient.
Outside of work, Amaan enjoys basketball, strength training, and spending time with family, friends, and his attention-seeking cat.
Michelle is a highly experienced and dedicated veterinary nurse with over two decades of experience, having earned her qualification in 2000. She joined the practice in 2014 and has since become an invaluable member of the team.
With a particular passion for wound care and emergency and critical care, Michelle brings both expertise and compassion to every case she handles. As a clinical coach, she plays a key role in training and mentoring student veterinary nurses, helping to guide and inspire the next generation of professionals.
Outside of work, Michelle enjoys spending time outdoors with her two Vizslas, taking them on long walks and embracing her love of nature.
Emily, known to many as Ems, is a Registered Veterinary Nurse who has been part of the practice since 2015. She has a particular interest in pet nutrition and runs the weight management clinics for our patients.
Emily shares her life with her lively cocker spaniel, Jinx — a familiar face to many clients around the practice. Outside of work, she enjoys exercising, travelling, and exploring the countryside on long walks with Jinx.
Becky is a Registered Veterinary Nurse who has been part of the Vets for Pets Gloucester team since 2020, qualifying as an RVN in 2023. She has a particular interest in caring for small furries and exotic pets and loves expanding her knowledge to provide the best possible care for these special patients.
Outside of work, Becky enjoys pole fitness and aerial hoop, and at home she is kept entertained by her two lively chinchillas.
Molly has been a Registered Veterinary Nurse since June 2024 and joined Vets for Pets Gloucester in January 2025. While she enjoys all areas of veterinary nursing, her main interests are surgery and anaesthesia.
Outside of work, Molly is a Tae Kwon Do black belt, enjoying both training and teaching children. She also loves listening to music and spending time with her dog, Ash.
Bethany, who commonly goes by Beth, is a Student Veterinary Nurse at Vets for Pets Gloucester. She shares her home with her cavapoo, Milo, and has a love for all things cozy.
When she’s not at work, college, the gym, or studying for her exams, you’ll often find Beth curled up with a blanket and a good book.
Jeorjia is a third-year Veterinary Nursing student with a background in healthcare, bringing a compassionate and practical approach to animal care. She has a strong interest in developing her skills across all areas of veterinary nursing and is particularly passionate about patient wellbeing and hands-on clinical work.
A proud Spaniel enthusiast and dedicated horse owner, Jeorjia combines her personal love for animals with her professional journey in the veterinary field.
Maisie is a Student Veterinary Nurse who has been part of the Vets for Pets Gloucester team since March 2025. She is currently in her second year at Hartpury University, studying to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse. Her favourite module is patient care, which she enjoys putting into practice at the clinic.
When she’s not at work, Maisie can be found at home wrestling socks off her lively 5-year-old cockapoo, Willow.
Sarah joined our team in March 2025 and is currently in her second year at Hartpury University, studying to become a qualified Veterinary Nurse. She is enjoying developing her practical skills and gaining hands-on experience to support her studies.
At home, Sarah is kept on her toes by her cheeky Yorkie cross, Princess!
Georgie is a Student Veterinary Nurse who joined Vets for Pets Gloucester in 2023 for her placement year. She enjoys all aspects of nursing and loves being involved in patient care, while continuing to learn from the experienced team around her.
Outside of work, Georgie enjoys horse riding and spending time with her dogs, Lottie and Oscar.
Barbara qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1995. After exploring various other career paths, she returned to the veterinary industry and joined Vets for Pets Gloucester in 2016. She initially worked predominantly on reception, and assisted with veterinary nursing duties as needed, before moving into a managerial role. She now works from home, overseeing account queries and supporting the Practice Owner with the day-to-day running of the practice.
Outside of work, Barbara is an active and dedicated individual who enjoys long walks with her two small dogs and teaching them agility. Her focus and determination extend beyond the practice—she has proudly completed the London Classics challenge, which includes the London Marathon, RideLondon, and Swim Serpentine.
Grace has been part of the practice since it first opened in 2012, making her one of the longest-standing members of the team.
Outside of work, Grace is a busy mum to three cheeky boys and a Collie named Ted. Much of her free time is spent with her husband on the sidelines of football and rugby pitches, cheering on her boys. When she’s not being a dedicated sports mum, Grace loves heading out on family adventures — making the most of every moment before the boys grow up too fast!
Sian joined the team in April 2023 as a Customer Advisor and offers a warm welcome to all our clients and their pets.
Before joining us, she achieved her Level 3 Diploma in Horse Husbandry and First Aid and gained valuable experience assisting international para-riders at overseas competitions.
Since joining the practice, Sian has begun working towards her BVRA (British Veterinary Receptionist Association) qualifications and is eager to continue developing her skills within the veterinary field.
Outside of work, Sian enjoys trips to the seaside with her Cockapoo, Rio—who occasionally lends a paw at the reception desk!
Emma has been part of the Pets Group since 2016, starting on the shop floor in Gloucester before moving to Vets for Pets Gloucester in 2021.
Outside of work, Emma enjoys watching Gloucester Rugby at Kingsholm, and spending time with her dog Louie and her daughter Grace.
Alyson joined Vets for Pets Gloucester as Practice Administrator in 2023, following a long career in Child Protection. She has been a longtime supporter of the practice as Jake’s wife since it opened in 2012.
While Alyson primarily works from home managing elements of banking and insurance,
When she is in the surgery, She really enjoys meeting and greeting everyone that comes in and meeting all the fur babies that visit the surgey is a great perk to the job!
Outside of work, Alyson takes care of her two children and their pets and runs a charity, GRI-UK, which provides support for families affected by the same rare genetic disorders that her son lives with.
