Meet the Team Images Eastbourne - Warwick Payne

Warwick Payne BVetMed MSc(VetGP) MRCVS

Joint Venture Partner and Veterinary Surgeon

AKA Mr P the JVP. Warwick qualified from the Royal Veterinary College London in 1998. He has spent his whole career in small animal practice gaining a Master’s degree in Veterinary general practice (MscVetGP) in 2005. He has worked hard to look after the animals in Eastbourne since 2008 building the current practice from day one with his wife Vicky.

He has an interest in cardiology and ultrasound. He also enjoys some orthopedic procedures, regularly performing MMP cruciate procedures and luxating patella surgeries. Warwick is also experienced in a variety of more complex soft tissue procedures such as “cherry eye” replacement and BOAS surgery (widening the nostrils and shortening soft palates in brachycephalic dog breeds). He says “I believe veterinary General Practice as a specialist area in its own right” “I try to involve owners as much as possible, explaining conditions so that we can take a co-operative approach to case management with owners to help them get the best result for their pets in line their circumstances”.

As Warwick holds a master’s degree in Veterinary General Practice, he is an assessor for the RCVS certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP) marking examination modules in veterinary primary care. He has a passion for helping newly qualified vets in the first few years in practice to help them transition from theory to practical.

Warwick lives at home with his wife Vicky the Vet and his ever growing pack of Springer Spaniels although he would quite like his own Maine Coon Cat.

Vicky Payne BVetMed MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Vicky is our go to vet on dog breeding and behavior, as well as having her qualifications in holistic and veterinary acupuncture. She is one of only a handful of vets nationally to hold a qualification in herbal medicine.

Her passion is her Springer Spaniels and writing her blogs. If we cannot find Vicky she will be having a few quiet moments playing escape games during her lunchtime. Vicky lives at home with Warwick and given the chance can easily digest a good book in a day.

Daniel de Diego MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Originally from Spain, Daniel achieved his degree in veterinary medicine from Zaragoza University in 1999. The following year he moved over to the UK where he worked in several practices around the South East before settling down with Companion Care Vets in Eastbourne. Daniel enjoys all fields of veterinary medicine and surgery.

In his spare time Daniel enjoys watching movies at the cinema, hiking and gardening with his lovely wife Marta.

Victoria Jones MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Victoria qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2015, from there she started her career in mixed practice before choosing to specialise in companion animals. Victoria has a particular interest in neurology and surgery, she is also studying for a certificate in small animal surgery.

In her spare time Victoria enjoys reading trashy novels and going for long walks. She lives with her partner Ian, who is also a veterinary surgeon and their cheeky rescue cat called Inca and lunatic Labrador Maui.

Michaela Dawkins MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Transplanted over from the United States in 2018, Michaela is one of our newest team members. She graduated with her veterinary degree from Louisiana State University in 2014. She has been working in veterinary general practice ever since, both in Florida and West Virginia. Michaela likes general practice and has a special interest in exotics and zoo animals.

When not working, Michaela likes to read and enjoys watching movies with her two cats, Percy and Achilles. She also spends lots of time exploring to make the most of living in a new country.

Stefania Cazzaniga MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Ever since she can remember Steffi has always wanted to be a vet. Her dream became true when she graduated with honours in 2010 at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Milan. After spending time practicing with small animals in Italy, she moved over to the UK to gain further knowledge and progress in her career. Steffi says “I love every aspect of internal medicine and soft tissue surgery, I always bring my enthusiasm and passion for animals to work every day”.

Steffi is also a lifelong horse rider and has a special interest for natural horsemanship. In her spare time Steffi enjoys watching wild animals big and small in their natural habitat going about their daily activities. She also enjoys listening rock music, mountain hiking. Swimming in the sea and spending quality time with friends and family.

Last but not least … Steffi also had a great obsession for cheese!

Assistant Vet Surgeon

Alison Parsons

Practice Manager

Alison is our everlasting Practice Manager, as you can see by our blogs she has a hard time trying to keep us in line. She has a passion for client care and will help with any problems big or small with staff and clients. At home Alison lives with her husband five children and den of snakes, in her spare time she likes to take walks with her dog Alice. Alison keeps the practice going.

Lisa Barker RVN

Head Veterinary Nurse

As head Nurse Lisa goes above and beyond. There are not enough hours in the day for Lisa, if she isn’t busy providing unrivalled love and attention to our in patients and supporting the vets, she is guiding our team of dedicated nurses in their clinical skills.

You will also often see her providing first class advice at reception too. Lisa lives at home with her husband, her dog Tess and Terence the tortoise.

Melanie Lavender RVN C-SQP

Veterinary Nurse

After qualifying as a veterinary nurse in 2013 Mel worked in a number of practices around East Sussex before joining the Companion Care Team in October 2015. She has a particular interest in parasites (especially ticks) so if you need any advice Mel is your go to nurse.

At home Mel has two cats, Rosie the Rescue and Fat Fred who weighs in excess of 10kg! In her spare time she enjoys power lifting, marathon training and attending OCR events.

Bianca Clarke RVN

Veterinary Nurse

Bianca is one of the latest members of the nursing team after qualifying as an RVN in 2017. She has a particular interest in anaesthesia and analgesia.

Bianca doesn’t have a favourite pet but put any animal in front of her and she will happily have cuddles. She enjoys spending her free time at the beach paddle boarding with her daughter, fiancée and dog Gizmo.

Gen Wright RVN

Veterinary Nurse

Gen joined the team as a student veterinary nurse in 2016 and qualified in July 2017, since then she graduated from the Royal Veterinary College with a BSc Degree with honours in Veterinary Nursing. Gen particularly enjoys medical nursing and if you bring a boxer dog to see her she will be your best friend!

In Gen’s spare time she enjoys dining out and going to the cinema, she lives at home with her fiancée, Betty the bunny and her latest addition Forrest the three legged kitten.

Jessica Wellard RVN

Veterinary Nurse

Jess has been a qualified veterinary nurse since 2009 and worked in several practices before settling part time with the Companion Care family in 2017. She has an interest in wound management and happy to answer any of your questions.

At home Jess lives with her husband, two cats and has her hands full with two mischievous daughters. Jess also has a passion for singing where she performs in local bars and restaurants.

Gabby Whitaker

Animal Nurse Assistant 

Gabby began working with the Eastbourne practice in 2014 as member of our reception team, 3 years later she had the opportunity to train as an ANA nurse which is an exciting new challenge and qualified in 2019. Gabby is also certified in dog grooming so happy to answer any questions.

Gabby likes to spend her spare time with family, going on adventurous holidays, dining out and eating biscuits.

Rebecca Orr

Animal Nurse Assistant 

Rebecca has over ten years’ experience as a veterinary nurse assistant. She has studied in animal care and qualified with NVQ Level 2 and First Diploma. Her entire working life has been spent with animals, before her career in the veterinary industry she in kennels and animal rescue centres.

Rebecca has a great interest in large dog breeds, the bigger the better! Her personal favourite is the St Bernard, one day she plans to have one of her own. Rebecca’s also enjoys swimming, cycling, going to see live music and visiting places of interest.

Leanne Newnham

Veterinary Receptionist

Leanne joined the practice in April 2015 as a part time receptionist, after a few months here she really got into the swing of things and became a full time member of the team. Leanne likes to keep everyone well hydrated with plenty of tea … and if their lucky she may bring in her famous homemade cookies too.

At home Leanne has a variety of pets including parrots, budgies, rabbits and dogs Daphne and Boris. She recently acquired a stray guinea pig brought into the practice after being found eating bricks … We’ve named her Mrs Pigglesworth.

Chloe Mellor

Veterinary Receptionist

After returning from travelling Chloe decided on a career change, so she joined the Companion Care family in March 2016 and never looked back.

Chloe thoroughly enjoys working with the reception team, she is also keen to learn so would love to progress her career towards ANA nursing in the future.

Outside of work Chloe enjoys reading, photography & being an adrenaline junkie. She also adores spending time with her Dachshund Ellie and two cats … One of which is Sebastian the Siamese who you may have seen helping on reception in the past.
