Our cancellation and fail to attend policy
We have been experiencing a large increase in clients failing to attend appointments. Each fail to attend means there is another patient who could have been seen sooner who needed our help. We have had to implement a cancellation and fail to attend policy. This means that you need to contact us at least 24 hours before your appointment if you wish to reschedule. Any failures to attend will incur certain fees. Thank you for your understanding.

Joint Venture Partner and Veterinary Surgeon
BSc(Chem.Eng.), M.Ing., BVSc, MRCVS
Graduated: 1998 in South Africa
Having qualified and worked as an engineer, I went on to graduate as a vet in South Africa in 1998. Following this I moved to Portsmouth. Along with Mackie, I became a Joint Venture Partner in the Portsmouth surgery on Burrfields Road in 2001. Together with other partners, we now have a group of associated practices within the Solent area: Companion Care Vets in Portsmouth, Fareham Park Gate and Fareham Collingwood, and Vets4Pets in Waterlooville and Havant.
I have a keen interest in exotic patient care, medicine and surgery.
In my spare time, I can be found gardening, tinkering, building and making things.
Mackie Hobson
Joint Venture Partner and Veterinary Surgeon
BSc(Agric.), BVSc, MRCVS
Graduated: 1998 in South Africa
Joined the Team: 2001
I graduated as a veterinary surgeon, in South Africa, in 1998 and then moved to the UK to join Antony as a Joint Venture Partner in Portsmouth in 2001. Together with the other partners, there is now a group of associated practices within the Solent area: Companion Care Vets in Portsmouth, Fareham Park Gate and Fareham Collingwood, and Vets4Pets in Waterlooville and Havant.
I spend part of the year working in South Africa treating anything from lions to helping kittens at welfare centres. My wife, Jess, who previously worked at the Fareham Park Gate surgery, may be seen doing locum cover over the summer holidays.
I have 2 dogs, Dougie (a chocolate lab) and Pumkin (a cross breed rescue) and 3 cats (Larry, Mips and Chips). I have an interest in general medicine and surgery.
Graduated: 2001 Munich, Germany
Joined the Team: 2009
I’m Dr. Christiane Caspers, a veterinary surgeon trained in Munich, Germany, where I also earned my PhD.
My professional interest lies in feline and rabbit medicine, with a special focus on internal medicine and ophthalmology.
I’m always eager to learn and continually improving my knowledge and skills, regularly attending international congresses to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in veterinary care.
I enjoy working in a multi-vet clinical environment, where collaboration and shared expertise make a real difference for our patients.
Outside of work, I love spending time outdoors — especially along the beautiful southern England coast, where I enjoy coastal walks and combine my interests in bird watching and wildlife photography. When I’m not exploring nature or behind the camera, you’ll often find me with a good book or baking traditional German cakes and Christmas cookies to share with the team.
For me, veterinary medicine is not just a profession but a true passion, driven by curiosity, compassion, and the joy of helping animals.
Graduated: 2007 in Evora, Portugal
Joined the Team: 2010
I graduated in 2007 in the beautiful historical city of Evora, in Portugal. After working for two years in a small animal hospital in my home town, I decided to come to the UK, to be an intern in a referral centre, which was a great experience. However, my heart has always been in first opinion practice, so I joined the Companion Care Vets Portsmouth team in 2010.
Since I joined the practice all those years ago, I have completed a Surgery and Anaesthesia Postgraduate Diploma from the University Autónoma of Barcelona and a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice with the University of Liverpool, which allowed me to focus on a few other subjects I enjoy, such as Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Critical Care and Analgesia.
I don't have four legged pets at the moment, as we recently lost our Staffy, but I have two African land snails. I enjoy travelling with my family, anything from camping around the corner to a flying somewhere further away!
Graduated: 2002 in Italy
Joined the Team: 2013
I joined the team in 2013, via the PDSA where I worked for 4 years. After graduating in 2002 in Italy, I spent some time in small animal practices in Rome and Sardinia before deciding to travel to England.
I have a keen interest in orthopaedics, love travelling and enjoy martial arts.
Graduated: 1988 in Onderstepoort, South Africa
Joined the Team: 2017
I qualified in 1988 in Onderstepoort, South Africa, and came to work in West Sussex in 1991. In 2008 I became a Joint Venture Partner in Companion Care Vets Rustington and Companion Care Vets Chichester, before selling my partnership in 2014. I then locumed in a few local Companion Care Vet practices before joining the team at Companion Care Vets Portsmouth permanently in 2017.
I have a keen interest in dermatology and feline medicine. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, photography and travelling.
Graduated: University of Bari, Italy in 2019
Joined the team: April 2024
I graduated as a veterinary surgeon, in Italy at the University of Bari in 2019. Having always had a passion for Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, and Internal Medicine, I worked for four years at a veterinary hospital as the head of the anaesthesia and reanimation ward.
Afterwards, I worked at various facilities as a freelancer before deciding to continue my passion for the health of pets at Companion Care Vets Portsmouth, fulfilling my childhood dream of living here in the UK.
I love trekking, discovering the history and charm of different places, and above all, I am enthusiastic about nature and landscapes.
Graduated: 2016 University of Istanbul
Joined team: June 2024
I graduated in 2016 from the University of Istanbul. Before moving to the United Kingdom in 2024, I was the proud owner of a local small animal practice in Turkey, where I developed my interests in viral and bacterial disease management.
I am looking forward to supporting all the pets of Companion Care Vets Portsmouth as a general practitioner, and passing on my years of experience and knowledge to their owners.
I moved to the United Kingdom with my wife, Border Collie and Tabby cat, and found a love for hiking and camping. I developed a passion for football when I was a young boy, and whilst I cannot support my home team in Turkey, I am looking forward to supporting Pompey Football Club.

I've been passionate about veterinary nursing since 1996, qualifying in 2001, and have spent over two decades with the Companion Care Group. In 2014, I proudly stepped into the role of Head Nurse, where I continue to thrive leading and supporting our incredible nursing team.
Alongside my clinical work, I’m a trained Radiation Protection Supervisor and became a certified Mental Health First Aider in 2024 — both roles I value deeply as part of maintaining a safe, supportive environment for both patients and colleagues.
My special interests lie in dentistry, for which I hold an Oral Care Certificate, and diabetes management — two areas where I find making a tangible difference in pets’ health especially rewarding.
What I love most about my role is mentoring nurses, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the surgery, and upholding the highest standards of patient care.
Outside of work, life is full of adventures with Melchy, our mischievous Border Terrier (or “Border Terrorist” as we affectionately call him), who keeps my husband and me on our toes — especially when climbing mountains. I also enjoy sketching, sewing, and caring for my tropical fish, which provide a little slice of tranquillity in my spare time.

I have always wanted to work with animals and have a keen interest in nutrition and physiotherapy completing certificates in both. I also have a passion for neonate care, hydrotherapy and rabbits!
Outside of work, I enjoy going to the gym and trying new foods.

I always loved animals and once I discovered the role of a Registered Veterinary Nurse, I realised it would be the best fit for me. I enjoy every aspect of nursing, especially anaesthetic monitoring, caring for critically ill and exotic patients, dentals and nurse clinics.
Away from work, I like to cycle and roller skate in my spare time.

I have loved animals for as long as I can remember, so becoming a Registered Veterinary Nurse really has been a dream come true. Every day in practice brings something new, and I feel so lucky to be doing a job that I’m truly passionate about. I have a keen interest in exotic species and wildlife, and I love the variety they bring to my work-it’s always a learning experience! I also have a special interest in inpatient care, where I can focus on supporting patients through their recovery and making them feel safe and loved.
As well as nursing, I’m also a clinical coach, which means I support and mentor two amazing student nurses as they train. It’s incredibly rewarding to help them grow in confidence and develop their skills. I also look after the practice’s social media accounts- sharing updates, pet care tips, and behind-the-scene glimpses of life at the vet practice (and of course, lots of cute animal photos!).
When I’m not at work, I love being outside - whether that’s walking in the sunshine, spotting wildlife, or snapping photos of nature. I also enjoy reading, painting, spending time with my family and relaxing with my two lovely dogs, Hugo and Belle, who definitely keep me on my toes!
Joint the team: 2019
Having previously worked in Pets at Home, I joined the team at Companion care Vets Portsmouth in 2019 as a Veterinary Care Assistant. I then started my studies towards becoming a Veterinary Nurse in 2020.
I really enjoy all that first opinion practice has to offer and love the variety each day brings. I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge as I continue through my studies.

At university I studied graphic design before realising my dream job was to become a veterinary nurse.
I have a whippet called Wilfred and a hamster called Pippin. In my spare time I like to make clothes from scratch but I'm not overly successful! I enjoy listening to music and going to music festivals in my downtime.
I joined Companion Care Vets Portsmouth in 2021 as a receptionist and found I was drawn to patient care so, within 12 months, I moved onto the nursing team as a Veterinary Care Assistant. I have since progressed to become a Student Veterinary Nurse at MYF Training.
I have developed a keen interest in anaesthesia, radiography and assisting our patients and their owners in nurse clinics. I have a huge soft spot for our geriatric patients; it is so rewarding to get them eating again or to have a tail wag/purr from them once they're feeling better. I have been assigned as the practice Health & Safety officer and am enjoying that aspect of the role as well.
I have enjoyed my move and have definitely found my calling! I'm looking forward to qualifying as a Registered Veterinary Nurse next year (I hope!).
Outside of work I enjoy relaxing at home with my husband, playing video games and building book nooks and Gunpla models. I have a fascination with historical medicine and natural history, I have an ever-growing collection at home!

My veterinary journey began in 2019, when I first joined the practice as a receptionist—so I may already be a familiar face to some of you! In 2022, I transitioned to the nursing team as a Veterinary Care Assistant, and I'm excited to be working towards becoming a Registered Veterinary Nurse in the future.
Although I hold a bachelor’s degree in Television & Film Production, I quickly realised that my true passion lay in animal care after joining Companion Care. The veterinary field has opened my eyes to so many fascinating aspects, and I find great joy in providing post-operative care to our patients. Every day is an opportunity to learn more and grow in this ever-evolving profession.
When I'm not working, you’ll probably find me with my spirited Dachshund, Wilson, spoiling him as usual! I’m also a big fan of video games and love attending concerts with my partner. Oh, and in my spare time, I enjoy painting—it's a creative outlet that allows me to unwind and express myself.
I’m truly passionate about caring for animals, and I look forward to helping our team give your beloved pets the best care they deserve. Rest assured, they’re in excellent hands!

Lisa Briggs
Receptionist
Joined the team: August 2024
Having worked within the recruitment industry for over 15 years I decided it was time for a change and to follow a dream of mine, to work with animals. After leaving a permanent role, I reached out to many local vets and secured a role as a part time Veterinary Care Assistant. This developed and I became a Receptionist, then a Customer Care Manager and then I moved on to my current role as Practice Manager.
I am in a co-dependent relationship with my Ragdoll cat, Busta! I enjoy spending time with our family PAT dog, Smedley and would love to own, when the time is right, a Portuguese Water Dog to train and work as a Therapy dog too.
