Your Vet is Mark Winsey, MRCVS
Joint Venture Partner & Veterinary Surgeon
In common with many people who grew up in Naval families I was born and spent many of my formative years in the Plymouth area. I graduated from Cambridge University in 1981 and worked in small animal practice in south east Englandfor four years. In 1985 I moved to Somerset, initially doing mixed work but have looked after small animals for the last twenty years. I am extremely excited to become a partner in this fantastic new venture in Plymouth.
I see myself as a companion animal GP and I am dedicated to providing exceptional veterinary care to the people of the Plymouth area from this 'state of the art' new surgery.
Outside work I like to relax with my wife, three children and our two dogs,'Lulu', a golden retriever and 'Cotley', a black labrador .
Katharine Whiteley
Veterinary Surgeon
I graduated from The Royal Veterinary College London and moved back home to the Devon to live with my partner. We just bought our first house together and got engaged! So far have resisted temptation to take home any cute animals that come in and make do walking my mums beautiful working cocker spaniel ‘Bena’ on the moors.
I travelled a lot as a child as my father was in the Royal Marine’s, a stay in Barbados with 72 pet tortoises ignited my interest in exotic medicine, rabbits, guinea pigs, tortoises etc… which I built on during university by spending a lot of time working at Jersey Zoo. I love the diversity of my job from puppies and kittens to marmosets and degus, emergency work and vaccinations.
Outside of work I enjoy cycling, quilting, sewing, horse riding and watching my fiancés band.
Sara Roberts
Veterinary Nurse
After graduating with a BSc Honours degree in Zoology I applied to do my veterinary nurse training in the hopes of learning practical skills that would be of use to a field conservationist (my original plan). What I learnt was that veterinary nursing was the only job for me! I have now been the veterinary profession for over 5 years and never looked back. I have worked in lots of different places from regular practices to wildlife centres, specialist referral clinics to charity clinics, and even a zoo! I love all aspects of my job but especially enjoy behaviour, physical therapy, nurse clinics and exotics. I live in South East Cornwall with my little, three legged terrier Hattie May.
Katie Harder
Veterinary Nurse
I moved down here from Bournemouth to live with my partner and joined Companion Care vets Plymouth. I graduated in June 2010 from Bristol University and have worked for Companion Care for many years. I have a keen interest in exotic pets, dentistry, weight clinics and senior pet health.
Back home with my parents lives my English Bull Terrier called Rasti. Outside work I enjoy horse riding, scuba diving and socialising. My favourite food is chocolate!

Vicki Hughes
Veterinary Nurse Assistant
Originally from Liverpool I have a BSc degree in Zoology and an MSc in primate conservation. I have always wanted to work with animals and I am particularly interested in animal welfare and behaviour. I have carried out behaviour studies on captive gorillas and colobus monkeys and also wild howler monkeys within a forest reserve in Ecuador. I am an experienced nurse assistant having worked for 3 years at a busy RSPCA hospital in London dealing with animal welfare issues on a daily basis and carrying out most duties required from a qualified nurse. I moved to Plymouth in August 2010 and was fortunate enough to gain a nurse assistant position with Companion Care. I really love nursing and so I am hoping to train to become qualified sometime in the future. I love socialising with friends, shopping and although I am definitely a dog person, I have 2 rescue cats called ‘Duke’ and ‘Cane’ that I adore.
Laura Collings
Vet Receptionist
I have been qualified in Animal Care for 5 years, but after working for 3 years as a Zoo Keeper I took a break from the animal world. I have joined Companion Care to work with animals again and in the future I would like to train as a veterinary nurse. I live in South East Cornwall with my Fiancé and my 2 cat, Pebbles and Jessie, and my rabbit Bramble who I hand reared from a baby.
