Rabbit awareness!
Keeping your rabbit fit and healthly is vital to a long, happy and fulfilling life. There are some key 'must do’s’ when it comes to the health of your rabbit.
• Vets and rabbit experts agree that pet rabbits should be neutered. Not only will this prevent unwanted pregnancies but it will also prevent sexual aggression and false pregnancies. Neutering has also shown to protect against cancer in female rabbits.
• Microchipping is strongly recommended just in case your curious bunny manages to escape! As small as a grain of rice the microchip is injected between the rabbits shoulder blades and a special device will pick up the unique number and as long as you have logged your details on the relevant database (your vet will advise you) there is every chance you will be reunited.
• We recommend you vaccinate your rabbit against two common diseases, myxomatosis and Viral Haemorrhagic Disease at around 6 weeks of age. The vaccine protects your rabbit and prevents it from being a carrier of disease and spreading infection. An annual booster vaccination will be required. Many boarding kennels will look after rabbits as well as cats and dogs but often will ask for proof of vaccination ….so keep hold of your certificate!
