Curious Bruno didn't count on getting lungworm...

Hi I’m Bruno and I just love to explore the garden! I’m only 5 months old and every day is an adventure for me, discovering new sights, sounds and smells…..oh and delicious things to eat. My owner tells me I shouldn’t eat the plants or other goodies that I find in the hedgerow but I sometimes just can’t help myself!

I was playing in the garden last week and came across the strangest looking snack

It was a bit slimy, a bit crunchy and to be honest didn’t smell too good. My curiosity got the better of me though and with a crunch and a slurp it was gone! We had a lovely walk in the park after that and I was so tired that I slept for the rest of the day!

I didn’t really fancy my breakfast the next day and was still feeling tired – I heard my owner wondering if he’d walked me too far the day before and that perhaps I should just have a nice quiet day. Sounded good to me!

I felt really bad because when he came home from shopping I’d been sick and I really didn’t feel at all well. He let me out to the garden and I had a really upset tummy too …. I wonder if it was the slimy snack that made me ill?

A few weeks later I really started to go downhill, I felt tired and started to cough a lot, I had nose bleeds and began being sick again. We went to see a nice lady vet and she performed a test and said I had a lungworm infection; probably from eating that smelly snail! She gave me some medicine and I now go to the vet for a regular check up.

To make sure I don’t get poorly again I have a treatment once a month that my owner calls “spot on” which will make sure that any re-infections are caught early.

My owner keeps a close eye on me now and makes sure I don’t eat anything I shouldn’t!
