Joao Alves

Veterinary Surgeon and Joint Venture Partner

Joao graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon in 2006 from Lisbon Tec University, Portugal. After working for several years in small animal practices becoming a Joint Venture Partner at Companion Care Scarborough has been a very exciting, full time project. He enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine with special interest in surgery. Currently he is looking to advance his technical skills in orthopedics and “Keyhole surgery”.

Sandra Pera

Veterinary Surgeon

Sandra attended the French Lycee in Lisbon, where she developed a special interest in science. She then graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Tecnica University of Lisbon in 2006. She has been working at Companion Care Scarborough since 2012 and is studying towards a PgC in Small Animal Medicine. She enjoys every aspect of veterinary medicine, including clinical pathology, ophthalmology and dentistry. Sandra loves going to the cinema, cooking and dancing in her spare time.

Sarah Webb

Veterinary Nurse

Sarah is one of our veterinary nurses and she has been with the practice since it first opened back in 2008! She has always had an interest in animals, their care and welfare and has worked in the veterinary profession for over 20 Years, including a period of lecturing in veterinary nursing and animal management. Her passion for animals continues at home, as she also lives and works on a mixed livestock farm with her partner and 3 children.

Sarah Duckering

Veterinary Nurse

Sarah joined the team in July 2015, she has always loved animals and has had lots of pets since been a teenager. She qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2001 but has had a number of years out of practice where she has had a variety of roles whist she has raised her children. She is so happy to return to practice as she loves her role of being a nurse. She has always loved surgery and nurse clinics as she loves to meet the clients and their pets. Sarah has a border collie called Donald and a rabbit called Dandelion, who, alongside her two daughters keep her very busy on her days off!!

Davide Caldeira

Veterinary Care Assistant

Davide joined the team in June 2015 after coming over from Portugal. He has had a passion of working with animals since he was little, this encouraged him to take up a career in veterinary nursing back at home. He then decided to broaden his horizons by coming over to the UK to gain his UK veterinary nursing qualifications and also to learn more about animal care. He enjoys all aspects of looking after animals but has a keen interest in assisting in theatre.

Victoria Stanhope


Victoria joined the team at Companion Care Scarborough in October 2014 and is our full time receptionist. At home she works alongside her partner and his family on the farm. She really enjoys the mix of working with the team and meeting and interacting with the clients and their pets, as well as working with the cows and sheep on the farm. In her spare time she enjoys riding and showing her horses Jiggy and Rosie, who also live on the farm. 

Deborah York


Deborah joined Companion Care Scarborough in July 2014 as a part time receptionist. Having never worked in a practice before, she absolutely loves it! My Golden Retriever, Abel, is her absolute world and she loves spending time with him (and her husband!). In her spare time she enjoys travelling, dog walking and seeing live music.

Christine Williamson

Practice Co-Ordinator

Christine joined Companion Care Scarborough in March2011 as a receptionist, but has since taken on the role of Practice Coordinator, keeping the surgery running smoothly. This role is very rewarding. I enjoy meeting the clients and patients and no two days are the same. In my spare time I enjoy walking with Archie my Cocker Spaniel who is also part of the Companion Care team. I also have 5 cats, and 2 rabbits.


Archie has been with the Companion Care team since he was 7 weeks old. He enjoys meeting the patients and reassuring the owners. Please come and meet him and the rest of the team
