Burgess Hill Vets for Pets

I opened the vet practice in Burgess Hill in 2013 with a group of like-minded friends and colleagues. Our goal was to create a vets’ practice where patients get exceptional medical and surgical care, with the compassion that we, as pet owners, would want for our own pets.

I have been working in Surrey and Sussex as a Veterinary Surgeon since 2000 after graduating from Edinburgh University Vet School. My previous experience varied from small village vets to large veterinary hospitals and also time at an animal emergency medical centre in Australia.

I was awarded a certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 2011, which reflects an increased level of ability and interest in treating dogs and cats with medical conditions. I thrive on the challenge on trying to work out what is wrong with a patient when their owners know intrinsically that ‘something is up’. Clients are so tuned-in to their pets. I couldn’t be the vet I am today, without my clients, who pick up on those subtle changes.  They know when a much loved member of the family is telling them that they are not OK.

I always wanted to be a vet, spending much of my childhood in Africa with a menagerie that Gerald Durrell would have been proud of! I try to devote some of my time to helping animals in need and have worked for animal charities in Spain and India. Now I work with local charities closer to home, including the RSPCA in Brighton and Paws and Claws. 

I am fortunate enough to share my life with my husband Glen, four (naughty) dogs and a cat that thinks she is a dog.

In my spare time I enjoy running (or more honestly enjoy feeling smug post run) and anything to do with water. I ran the Brighton Marathon for Sussex Wildlife Trust a few years ago. I also enjoy a good countryside dog walk especially if there is a pub at the end of it!

I graduated from Glasgow University Veterinary College in 1984 and since then have worked exclusively in small animal practice. Most of my career has been spent in Crawley, where I started as the young Scottish Vet, and progressed into a management role which included supervising and training the younger vets and nurses and solving problems.

My main veterinary interests and skills are with the smaller pets: rabbits, ferrets and cats. I love my role in Burgess Hill as it allows me to concentrate more of these animals which I am passionate about. I am proud that we are able to provide them with such a high level of care. We are constantly updating our treatments, anaesthesia and surgical techniques for these species as our profession learns more about what works best for them. This is vital as I seem to have developed quite a following.   

My husband and I (who is also a Vet), have been involved in charity work with cats for many years and helped set up a neutering clinic on Mustique in the Caribbean. At home we have the challenge of managing our woodland property to provide enough wood for our house heating. We have dogs, cats and hens for company.  We try to live as ecologically friendly life as is possible.

I qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon in 1985 from Glasgow University. Since then I have worked in small animal practice developing a particular interest in surgery.

Prior to moving to the surgery in Burgess Hill, I devoted a great deal of my time to neutering for the RSPCA as part of a mobile cat unit. Over the years our team neutered well over 20,000 cats, which is an achievement that I am quite proud of. We continue to work closely with the RSPCA at the Burgess Hill practice, by providing weekly vet visits to their Patcham Shelter and any treatments or surgery needed for the animals at the kennels.

I am the Senior Operating Vet at Burgess Hill and devote all my time these days to surgical procedures. I have a great deal of experience in orthopaedics including hip surgery, knee and patella surgery and enjoy mentoring the younger vets to share the techniques with them and to help them develop and gain confidence.

I am of course married to Karen, who also works at the practice, and have a share in looking after our collection of wonderful pets! In my spare time I enjoy working in my own engineering business where I make and repair all manner of things including surgical instruments.

I studied at the Royal Veterinary College in London but have lived in Brighton since graduating, because I love the sea and Sussex countryside! Growing up with two wonderful Labradors as part of the family meant it became inevitable that I’d become a vet.

From a professional point of view, I have always been interested in canine and feline medicine but my real passion is for surgery. I am currently completing a certificate in Veterinary Surgery which reflects an increased interest, knowledge and experience in this field.

In my spare time I love reading and get through hundreds of books each year. Many of these are cooking books as I also love to bake, the team at work seem happy to sample my skills in this department!  Otherwise I spend a lot of time outdoors and also enjoy yoga.

I graduated from Nottingham University in 2011 and worked in practice in Birmingham and Sussex for 8 years. I loved working as a vet, but my passion was always the mentoring of less-experienced vets. I completed various training and supported at Surrey University and so after around a year at the practice I decided to broaden my horizons and take a role within the Vet Group Support Office team. I now spend the majority of my time running the Vet Graduate Programme for Vets4Pets & Companion Care. This role involves organising training and pastoral support for 100s of new vets as they enter the profession and ensuring they get the help they need to develop early in their careers.

I still wanted to be a practicing vet and keep my skills from getting rusty! So, I do regular weekend work at the practice and help cover other vets’ holidays when I can. It’s great catching up with my old clients and colleagues as well as, obviously, all the lovely pets!

In my spare time I am busy completely renovating my new home and looking after my cat Harry.

I studied at Nottingham University and graduated from the Veterinary Faculty in 2020 before moving back down to my family in Sussex. I have worked in small animal practice since. I enjoy many aspects of veterinary life but in particular, I love medicine and diagnostic imaging.

When I am not at work you will find me volunteering for a local Girl Guide unit alongside spending time with family and friends, including my German Shorthaired Pointer Ava.​

I qualified with a Masters Degree in Veterinary Medicine from Ghent University in Belgium in 2017, and absolutely love my job!

I am a true general practice vet at heart.  I love the challenge of seeing different cases and patients daily, but have a special interest in challenging medicine cases, ophthalmology and cardiology.

At home I adore my lovely little family with my partner, my little boy, as well as my two wonky rescue cats who keep me busy with their various ailments.

Outside of the vet world, I attained an honours degree in Fine Art and Design and enjoy anything creative, or cuddling up with a good book!

I qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in London 2016 and then moved to Brighton to pursue my interest in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. I love the area and the people and have never looked back!

My past veterinary experience includes working for the charity PDSA and also undertaking emergency work at a Small Animal 24 hour Hospital in Brighton.

In my spare time I enjoy keeping active and completed the Brighton half marathon in 2022. I enjoy socialising, trying new restaurants and going for trips to the theatre.

I relish going on adventures with my naughty rescue Chihuahua, Roo. I definitely have a soft spot for this breed! Our latest caper included paddle-boarding  which was great fun, although I am unsure how keen Roo really was! 

I started veterinary nursing in 2003 and qualified from Plumpton College with my nursing diploma in 2007. Over the years, I have worked at a number of different practices in London, Surrey and Sussex, including a couple of large referral hospitals. Most recently, I spent 6 years at North Downs Specialist Referrals rotating through different specialist areas, then working as a static theatre nurse. Here I developed a particular interest in anaesthesia and surgery.

I feel very strongly about looking to provide the best standard of care we can to our patients, and I have completed further study during my career to aid this, achieving the Vets Now Emergency and Critical Care certificate in 2014 and the Royal Veterinary College Advanced Nursing Diploma in 2019.

I live locally with my husband Adam, our two children Josh and Scarlett (who are fellow animal lovers). Our brood include our loopy ginger cat Aslan, our beautiful pointer Gecko and our two rats’ Bubble and Squeak. The other man in my life is Jeffrey my lovely horse share.

I graduated in 2019 from Plumpton College with a foundation degree in veterinary nursing. I have since worked in a local practice and spent some time in a referral veterinary hospital before joining The Vet Surgery, Burgess Hill.

Although I enjoy all areas of nursing, I have a keen interest in anaesthesia and am currently in the process of completing a nursing certificate specifically in this area.

I live with my boyfriend and two cats.

I graduated from Plumpton College in 2012 with a foundation degree in veterinary nursing. I have worked locally since, including at a busy veterinary hospital on the South Coast. I am in the process of completing my feline nursing diploma, and continually endeavour to adapt the care we provide to suit our feline patients. Ialso have interests in animal behaviour and nutrition.

At home I live with my boyfriend, two cats and naughty Border Collie, Brock. I love filling my spare time, taking him on long walks, teaching him new tricks, as well as attending flyball, agility and obedience classes. I am also an avid cinema goer and enjoy nothing more than a good coffee and catch up with friends.

I started as a trainee veterinary nurse in 1983 and qualified in 1986 after which I progressed to head nurse at a large small animal hospital. I became one of the first 70 nurses in the country to take the diploma in advanced surgical nursing involving anaesthesia, surgery, radiography and intensive care of all species and following this became operating theatre nurse managing a large busy operating theatre including routine, orthopaedic and spinal surgery.

I am married to Steve and have 2 sons and lots of animals including ,2 dogs ,cats ,chickens, fish, gerbils and a hamster.

My hobbies are playing soprano, alto and tenor saxophone in 2 local concert bands and gardening especially the veggie patch.

I graduated in 2021 from the College of Animal Welfare, London with a veterinary nursing degree. I have since worked in a 24 hour vet hospital, where I gained lots of experience with lots of different species including some weird and wonderful exotic animals.

I live with my other half Sam, son Harry.

I had my son last year and have enjoyed maternity leave with him but I am now very excited to join The Vet Surgery Burgess Hill to continue my career as a veterinary nurse.

I have always had a huge amount of love for animals and since I was young knew one day I wanted to become a veterinary nurse! 

During my time at secondary school and college, I did work experience here at The Vet Surgery, Burgess Hill which I absolutely loved! I am now studying at Plumpton College and working as a trainee veterinary nurse. 

Last year, I trained in a busy vet hospital in London, but I am now back at home & working here in Burgess Hill. I love caring for all animals and find my job extremely rewarding. I cannot wait to qualify in the future! 

At home, I have a furry friend of my own - my cheeky little poodle, Hope.

I have always had such a love for animals from a very young age and have always had dogs in my family from Newfoundland’s and Leonbergers to German Shepherds and Shih Tzu’s, along side Rabbits and Hamsters.

I absolutely love my job role here as no day is the same and let’s be honest, what’s not to love about spending all day long with animals?!

I work with such a knowledgeable and brilliant team here at the vet surgery and continue to learn interesting techniques and information from them all.

I have a little crossbreed called Darcey and a very independent cat called Bella. And in my spare time I enjoy spending time with my son, Horse riding and baking.

I have always had a special connection with animals and when I was around 13 years old, a friend suggested I should be a veterinary nurse, so from then on, that is exactly what I worked towards.

I qualified from Plumpton College as a veterinary nurse in 2007 after a 3 year course. I stayed with my practice for many years before joining The Vet Surgery Burgess Hill in 2016. Since being here I have held several positions such as senior veterinary nurse, deputy head nurse and recently I have taken on the role of practice manager.

I keep myself extremely busy outside of work with two children, a crazy Terrier and a wonderful Labrador, two guinea pigs and two ponies who are both ridden by my children.

I am extremely lucky as I absolutely love my job and I couldn't think of anything else I would want to do, unless I were fortunate enough to take on a small holding.

I started my career working with horses, becoming head girl at several livery yards & riding schools before establishing a reputation for schooling & producing horses for their owners. I eventually established my own stud, breeding Welsh ponies & Anglo Arabs. Later, with a young growing family, I started to concentrate more on my canine friends, showing & breeding gun dogs before accepting a position at The Animal Reception Centre at Gatwick & progressing to manager for the last 9 years at a busy boarding kennels!
I have two German Shepherds, having welcomed the latest addition to our family puppy “Maverick”
I am delighted to join the wonderful team here as a VCA. 

I am very excited to begin my veterinary career as a VCA here at Burgess Hill - Vets for Pets. I feel very grateful to be part of such a wonderful team who I am going to learn so much from. In the future, I am hoping to train as a veterinary nurse.

I have had animals all my life and they have always been a huge passion of mine.

I grew up with horses and got my first Shetland pony when I was 3, I worked as an equestrian groom for 4 years and was able to keep my horses on site, plus compete at national shows such a Hickstead.

I also have other fur babies Alfie my dog, and three rabbits blossom, bluebell and willow, my horse robin. To be able to look after animals for a living is such a privilege and it’s so rewarding. 

I have always wanted to be a veterinary nurse since i was a little girl. I absolutely love animals and life wouldn't be the same without them.

Although i love all animals i have a special place for scared cats. I enjoy trying the make their visits in practice as stress free as possible.

I qualified in 2003 and have since completed two nursing certificates. I have a certificate in anaesthesia and feline nursing.

I have a dog called ralph and three cats called princess, winston and Bagherra.
My favourite areas to work are theatre and wards.

I have worked in the veterinary world for over 20 years, and a part of this lovely team for two years now, I am now apart of the management team full time.

I live with my wife Steph and my little girl Primrose, i also have four lovely pets, two cats and two dogs, three of them are from Crete Greece. 

I my spare time, i enjoy going for walks with the dogs, and working on Arthur's Patch which is a bit of land we bought in memory of our son, that we are soon hoping to open to the public.  

I have 3 cats, Hattie, Harvey & Harold and a dog called Halle, a miniature Daschund. I enjoy being outside and going for long walks across the Downs, in my spare time I do dog walking & cat sitting. I also have a son named Parker. 

I've also recently completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge & the London to Brighton night bike ride. This year I am training myself up for Brighton half marathon! I have worked in the veterinary world since 2003. In my last practice I did a mixture of trainee veterinary nursing and reception. I love nursing and caring for animals and also enjoy my role on reception & meeting new faces.

I have been an employee at The Vet Surgery for seven years now and can honestly say no two days are the same. I love my job and I enjoy working with the team.

Animals have always been very much a part of my life, I grew up with a variety of pets and always knew I wanted to work with animal and my dream came true.

I have four dogs “crazy I know” but I wouldn’t be without them they are my world and a de-stressor for sure.

I have Biscuit who is a Whippet, eleven years of age. Sandy, a Lurcher. I’m not too sure of her age as she is a rescue from Ireland but approximately seven years. Ivy, another rescue Lurcher about the same age we think and the new addition, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is 7 months old and a little terror! She chews everything she can get her paws on.

I grew up in the town of Lewes where I went to school and spent the very early part of my adult life. I moved to Burgess Hill in 1997, where my family and I have settled. I have three young children who go to school locally.

I previously spent many years working for a bank, before joining the team at The Vet Surgery Burgess Hill. I am very proud to be working, in an administration role, alongside our fantastic vets and nurses and I love meeting our clients with their wonderful pets.

I completed a learn to run course in 2017 and now run regularly with a local running club, I have taken part in marathons, half marathons and many other shorter distance races.

I live in Handcross with my family, four dogs, a Degu and two fish tanks.

We all share a passion for rescuing dogs and have taken on over ten dogs in the last ten years, we especially love Shar Peis’s and most of our rescues have been this challenging breed.

I moved from Buckinghamshire with my family in 2016 and found the perfect job a year later, as a receptionist with The Vet Surgery, Burgess Hill. I now look after our Rota for the team, which can certainly be challenging at times but keeps me busy.

I have three grown up children, and five grandchildren.

I previously worked at the RSPCA in Brighton for almost 20 years. I worked with dogs and cats but spent the last 15 years working with just cats.

I have one dog, four tortoises and five cats. I live in Portslade with my husband Ash, he is a landlord in a local pub which we co own.

My name is Mark, I have three children, two dogs, twelve fish and 1 gerbil, I’ve been working at the surgery from March 2022, previous to that I was at the Pets at Home store.

Having been brought up on a farm in New Zealand I’ve always had an affinity towards animals and found my calling working at the surgery.

If I’m not working or looking after the children, I can be found at my local bouldering & climbing gym, doing my best not to break any bones. 

My name is Danielle, I own a horse called Jazz and a bearded dragon called Panzie.

I have always wanted to work in veterinary and would like to be a veterinary nurse one day.

My hobby is horse riding and I compete at unaffiliated level in dressage, showjumping and cross country.
