Joint Venture Partner and Veterinary Surgeon
I graduated from Massey University in New Zealand 21 years ago. I worked in New Zealand for 8 years before moving to England to live. For the first 8 years here I worked in various practices and then in October 2004 I was fortunate to open Companion Care Chelmsford as the sole partner, fulfilling a long term career goal. I love my work and it has been very rewarding to see the practice grow from zero clients to where it is today. I live in Essex with my English husband and a very naughty Bengal called Smeagol. When I am not working I enjoy target archery, scuba diving, the gym, watching movies and socialising.
Samantha graduated from Massey University, New Zealand in 1996 and has practised in the U.K. since 1998. After several years locuming, followed by 6 years in the West Midlands, she moved to Essex in 2007 where Samantha has worked at Companion Care Chelmsford ever since. Her main interests are small animal medicine and when she is not at the clinic Samantha enjoys music, theatre, taking in English history and the countryside and travelling further afield.
Gail, Essex born and bred, qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1986 so has recently celebrated her 23rd ‘official’ birthday! Working in many different walks of veterinary life over the years, mixed practice, equine practice, small animal practice and 5 years as a dedicated emergency vet on night and week-end shifts has taken her all over the country – and to the other side of the world! Gail joined us in May 2009 and says she is content to be back on the day shift as “The Old Part-Timer”!! Her veterinary interests include soft tissue surgery, diagnostic imaging and metabolic disorders. She enjoys contributing to the profession through her many roles on the Council of Essex Veterinary Society over the past 10 years, including her “proudest moments” as President in 2002 and 2003. Hobbies include motorcycling, dancing, swimming and skiing.
Becky, originally from Chelmsford, graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2006. Her first job was in a mixed animal practice ion North Cambridgeshire, it was a great introduction to the beginning of her veterinary career. After 3 years she decided to move back to Essex after spending some time travelling to Hong Kong, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea. Becky started at Companion Care in September 2010. Her veterinary interests include soft tissue surgery and medicine – especially endocrinology. She loved being a vet and enjoys looking after her flat-coated retriever, staffie cross and a ginger and white cat called Harvey.
Kerry wanted to become a veterinary nurse since she was a little girl. In December 2003 she qualified. Kerry has worked for Companion Care Chelmsford since 2006. Her particular interest within the veterinary field is animal behaviour, especially in dogs. Kerry lives in Chelmsford with her collie cross dog, Zac and various other furry friends. She loves socialising with her friends on evenings and weekends. She also enjoys walking with Zac – Hylands Park is a favourite of both of theirs.
Gemma Rudd, better known in the practice as Bean or Gembean, has just completed her Veterinary Nursing course. She was brought up on a dairy farm and after completing school started working for the practice one day a week as part of a college course. Gemma has been working for Companion Care for nearly 3 years. She loves her job and cannot imagine doing anything else, as the job gives a feeling of achievement and making a difference.
In the future Gemma hopes to work abroad with a larger variety of different animals and expand her knowledge further.
Outside of work Gemma enjoys listening to music, meeting with friends, films and the usual teenage things!
Kelly has been a qualified veterinary nurse since June 2009. She gained her qualification as a degree from the Royal Veterinary College and completed many of her nurse training placements with this practice. Kelly really loves being a nurse and her favourite part is doing nurse clinics. Kelly lives in Chelmsford with her cat, Tumble and her rat, Rupert. In Kelly’s spare time she enjoys baking, going to the cinema and socialising with her friends.
