Caty Swain BVSc GPCert(SAP)
Joint Venture Partner and Veterinary Surgeon
I qualified as a vet 15 years ago from my hometown of Melbourne, Australia. Since then, I’ve worked with Australian wildlife such as echidnas, possums, wombats and the odd lethal tiger snake! I left Australia 13 years ago and have travelled to all corners of the world, lived and worked as a vet in Hong Kong for a year, worked all over the UK, and started working in Companion Care Poole in 2000.
I worked as a wildlife vet in South Africa last year and was taught, amongst other things, how to dart-gun rhino and other animals from open helicopters to sedate and then operate on them, as well as working with cheetah, elephants, giraffes, and doing DNA and relocation to help boost the population of the endangered Black Rhino of which there are only 4000 left in the world. I’m leaving for Africa in a couple of weeks to do another short stint of this amazing and rewarding charity work...a real privilege and quite a contrast to Small Animal Practice in Dorset, which I also love!
